Volunteer with AYSO: Coach, Referee, Region Admin

AYSO is powered by volunteers like YOU! Help make a difference in your community by supporting youth development through soccer. No experience is required, just a passion for helping kids grow, play, and thrive! AYSO is proud to provide the training, both in person and online, and mentorship you need to be successful in whatever role you choose.

Step 1: Register as a Volunteer

Register as an AYSO Volunteer!

The first step to becoming an AYSO volunteer is to visit your Region’s Sports Connect portal and click on "Register Now." For First Time Volunteers: You'll need to create a new account by entering your email address, setting a password, and clicking "Create Account" to proceed with the registration process.

Please Note:If you would like tocoach your child’s team, please register as a volunteer while registering your player.

Sterling Volunteers is AYSO's official partner for background checks. Sterling background checks are Level 1 screening to ensure the safest working environment for our soccer players.

As required by U.S. Soccer and mandated by theSafeSport Act of 2017, SafeSport is a training program focused on preventing child abuse and mandated reporting, and is a requirement for all AYSO volunteers.

Step 3: California Live Scan



Live Scan / Fingerprinting Application

California Live Scan / Fingerprinting

Effective, January 1, 2022, all administrators, employees andall volunteers in California MUST have a one-time background check as approved by the California Department of Justice to exclude individuals with a history of child abuse. This form of background check requires live scan fingerprinting.

AYSO’s Safe Haven program has been put in place to protect AYSO players and the volunteers who serve them. Safe Haven is the first program of its kind in youth sports, most notably in soccer.

Step 7: Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Sudden Cardiac Arrest 

Sudden Cardiac Arrest training is required in many states in part due to the Paredes Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act.
