The Pathway to Training for a Coach

Not a quick or easy  path as we wish it could be...

However this path gives us safe and trained volunteers
Coaching should be fun and rewarding
The path gives you tools, techniques and our children safety

1) All coaches must annually Register as a Volunteer

2) Get a Live Scan, only once for your Ayso career. What if I did one for baseball or the school district...sorry nope, each organization is separate, use the link to make sure you have the proper request form or go to a Live Scan Event in Area V. Make sure your receipt has ATI number, it will save you extra hassle. Most regions will cover the cost

3) Complete an Annual Background Check

Now we start taking classes, many are online...nothing a cup of coffee or tea won't hurt and sometimes a beer or a glass of wine will help

4) Ayso Safe Haven found in AysoU

5) Safesport ...the best way is to go into your Sports Connect login and navigate to your volunteer page, you can place a checkmark next to Safesport and then hit renew/update in the lower left. Wait I already did this for softball or baseball or....you can upload your certificate from your Safesport login. Unfortunately if you did this last year, there are refreshers :(

6) CDC Concussion Awareness..
. can be be found in your AysoU Training Library

7) SCA - Sudden Cardiac Arrest... can be found in your AysoU Training Library

Now we as a volunteer has endured much work to get here... but you are at the Base Camp and now begin our ascent to being Coaches

U6 and U8 are typically online classes found in Ayso Training Library, sometimes we offer them in person in August ...they go over the tips and tricks of that age group
.
For example U6 are more individualistic and want creative games

U8, now understand partners and drills better. the class give you an age appropriate adjustment

U10 is online and a field portion. U10 work better in a social sense as a team. Team tactics become easier to teach. In person classes are typically February, March, July, August, September Skills and drills plus understanding our Coach Philosophy as well the dreaded Build Out line

U12 is online and in the field. Skills are deeper and more technical, drills become more sophisticated, learning how to modify them to achieve what you want from the team

U14/Intermediate is online and in the field. The class is about getting deeper into the Training Sessions and planning. Understanding and teaching team tactics through your practices. Do the modules and the module for the Summary of the Laws of the Game otherwise it trips up your certification.

U16-19/Advance is about observing and evaluating. More of a workshop than a class

You can take the classes as your players age through the program, but I would take the classes as soon as you get time. It is nice to have better tools even coaching U8 or U10. The classes really are just that, tools for you to do your job better

Coaching is a Science, a Craft and an Art
